Alan is a writer, designer, researcher and maker of small strange systems.
I write essays, build websites, create story-worlds, design symbolic tools and collect curious archives. I'm interested in the ways a map can become a memory device, a book can become a machine, and a system can begin to feel like a place.
My work returns to old and new technologies of attention: cybernetics, tarot, gardens, design, folklore, interfaces, diagrams, publishing, robots and the quiet structures that shape how we notice, remember and make sense of the world.
This site gathers those public pieces: articles, exhibits, projects and doorways to neighbouring worlds.
